Under the Hood

Recipe Discovery Engine

Chick on Fire organizes recipes into three primary categories: Chicken Dishes with 7 items, Sweet Desserts with 7 products, and On-The-Go Meals with 8 options. Each recipe card displays four color-coded metrics: pink for preparation time, green for calories, blue for difficulty level, and red for ingredient count. The app uses a favorites system with heart icons that allow instant bookmarking from both list and detail views.

Nutritional Tracking System

Every dish includes precise calorie counts, protein content in grams, and carbohydrate measurements. For example, Chocolate Pudding shows 96 Cal with 4g protein and 8g carbs, while Apple Cinnamon Pie displays 187 Cal with 2g protein and 26g carbs. The detail screen calculates total calories based on serving size selection with a real-time counter. The interface displays "CALORIE: CALCULATED" status once metrics are processed for your chosen quantity.

Recipe Detail Interface

Individual recipe screens present overhead photography of finished dishes, difficulty badges ranging from EASY to higher levels, ingredient counts from 5 to 10+ items, and cooking times displayed in minutes. A serving selector allows adjustment from 1 to multiple portions with automatic recalculation. Quantity controls use minus and plus buttons with current count displayed between them. The back navigation uses consistent pink rounded buttons with left arrows across all category screens.

🍽

Serving Flexibility

Adjust serving amounts from single portions to multiple servings with the built-in selector. All nutritional metrics update in real-time, and the quantity controls let you increase or decrease total recipe output to match your meal planning needs.

How It Works

Recipe Navigation

  • Dark navy interface with white text provides high contrast for readability in any lighting condition
  • Each category header displays total product count in small white text below the category title
  • Pink back buttons with left arrows appear consistently across all detail screens for uniform navigation
  • Heart icons align vertically on the right edge of list items for quick one-tap favoriting without opening recipes

Data Display Logic

  • Nutritional information uses bullet separators between Cal, Protein, and Carb values in horizontal format
  • Color-coded metrics boxes use pink backgrounds for time, green for calories, blue for difficulty, and red text for ingredients
  • Recipe detail screens show overhead product photography with serving size dropdown positioned right-aligned below metrics
  • Quantity selector places minus button on left, current count in center, and plus button on right with consistent spacing
